Why Are People Moving Away From The Tiny Home Trend?
When the trend of “tiny homes” came around, it had most of us thinking if it was even possible for us to consolidate our stuff that much. Well we no longer have to worry about getting rid of our precious things because it seems that tiny homes are becoming a thing of the past and for good reason.
- Tiny living can be rough on relationships.
Two people living in a 300 square foot can be extremely confining. Wanting space away from each other would be difficult to get during rough times.
- Space is truly a precious thing.
When living in a tiny home, you can’t have the luxuries that you would be able to have in a bigger home. These things include having your own office and being able to watch tv late at night without waking anyone up.
- Less storage = More trips to the store.
Tiny homes have little to no storage so this means you might be making a few more trips to the store since you won’t be able to store the amount of groceries you would in a normal home. This also might mean higher grocery bills since you are going more often.
- Less room for a family.
Sometimes you can’t always expect when you’ll be starting a family and a tiny home isn’t the ideal place to raise a child.
- There is no room for hospitality.
If you are planning on having friends and family come into town then they might have to stay at a hotel which could possibly be an inconvenience for them.
- There is no escaping the people that you live with.
If you sometimes like to be by yourself then a tiny home isn’t the best fit for you. There isn’t any room to get away and sit and read and think in peace.
- It takes a special kind of person.
Living in a tiny home takes a special kind of person. The kind of person that has very minimal belongings, lives by themselves and likes being on the move.
- It’s just not a practical living situation.
Yes, tiny homes are cute and you can make them your own and design it how you want, but 100-300 square feet just isn't enough space for most people. They also aren't very practical to build in a suburban area. Tiny homes need some land which means you might be farther from other activities.
Tiny homes are cool and exciting, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. The market for tiny homes just isn't extensive, but if you are still looking to try out a tiny home, you can stay at The Tiny House Hotel in Portland to try your hand on what it's like staying in a tiny home.
