What Does Building Your Own Home Cost?
When we work with new clients, we are often asked: “What does building your own home cost?” The answer can depend on many factors, so we thought we’d tackle the answer for you today.
One of the first things that will affect the cost of building your own home is what floorplan you choose.
Because we work with such a large range of clients, we offer many different plans to suit your lifestyle and family size.
We also offer many different styles of ranch homes, which work well for couples who want to stay in one place for the long-term or larger plots of land that can handle a wide, single-story home.
The next question: How much do you plan on doing yourself?
While all of our Homestead plans put you in the driver’s seat of being your own General Contractor, this doesn’t mean you are completely on your own. It only means that you’ll be deciding which projects you want to do yourself and which you will be hiring a professional to accomplish.
Just keep in mind, when you are thinking about what building your own home costs, the more you hire, the higher overall costs you will accumulate.
Doing some of the work yourself works out well for those who are handy or love DIY projects, as they can tackle more of the mundane projects themselves.
After you’ve chosen a floorplan and decided how much work you’ll be doing yourself, another factor that will affect cost is going to be what “upgrades” you choose for your home.
Depending on your family situation and who all will be living in the home, you will most likely be choosing different upgrades.
For example, if you have teens, then you may be thinking more about the family room or technology center for your home. If you have smaller children, the upgrades to be considered will look much different.
If someone in your family loves to cook, it is likely that there will be upgrades in the kitchen such as granite countertops, higher-end appliances, or maybe a double dishwasher.
Once you’ve made these decisions, our program will calculate your budget and we will get you in touch with our lender to make the process as seamless as possible!
