Top Teen Upgrades For Your Custom Home
Past the diaper and baby gate stage lay the tween and teen years. No more toys laying around on the floor (hopefully!), more independence, and most likely more than just your big kids huddling around your home!
What Are Our Design Clients With Tweens & Teens Asking For?
- More Outlets & Charging Stations
Our design clients who have tweens and teens, with their own devices, and friends coming over to hang out (with all of their own devices, too) have asked for built-in charging stations with lots of power strips and extra outlets. - A Family Media/Gaming Room
A multi-function theater/media/gaming room is a huge plus that more clients are asking us about! Having a larger screen to watch a movie is great, but what about playing games on that same bigger screen? Plus, having lots of seats or lovesacs makes for comfortable hanging out. - Smart Locks On External Doors
Keep track of when tweens and teens are coming in by giving each their own access code to your home! (No more waiting up for them to make curfew!) - A Basement Gathering Area
Separate lounging from the “family room” or formal living room means that kids will have their own space to hang out. If you also have a second kitchen, or even a wet bar with a mini fridge for snacks, they’ll really have their own spot. - Study Nook / Mini-Library
In a corner of their room or a corner of one of your common areas, create a peaceful study nook with bookshelves, a power source (for laptops or a computer), and some good lighting. - Outside Living Space
Don’t forget the outside square footage! You can create a relaxing lounge area outside, too, with some comfy patio furniture and a firepit. - A Stackable Laundry Unit Separate From The Main Laundry Room
Separate from the main laundry room, a stackable laundry unit can help teens and tweens learn those pesky “adulting” skills and prompt them to handle their own dirty laundry!
- And for the parents… A Separated Master Suite
No more little ones generally means not having to do those late-night and 2am feedings or diaper changes - and that’s refreshing! Having the master suite set apart from the other “kid” bedrooms (as is the layout in many of our floor plans!) means that parents won’t be as likely to hear the blasting music or hear kids getting in and out of their bed or sneaking to the kitchen for a late night snack while they’re studying. It also means that parents get a little more privacy.
