Tips For The First Night In Your New Home
The night has finally come, it is the first night in your new home! This is the moment you have been waiting months for. With all the excitement, you are bound to forget a few items. It is important to put all your first night items in a box for each person in the family. A checklist is a good starting point. (Don’t forget the snacks!)
At some point before you get to the big moving day, you’ll want to pack for that day. The best way to approach this is to organize all of your first night essentials. Once this bag or box is packed a weight will be lifted off your shoulder. Once this bag is finished, you’ll want to start packing all your other items in your home. The first night bag might end up being used for a week, so make sure to pack enough of everything.
You won’t want to clean the entire house at one time, so have the essentials. You’ll want to bring the following items:
- Clorox wipes
- Paper towels
Basic Hygiene Supplies
You won’t want to rummage through boxes of items to find your body wash before you shower. You also won’t want to look for toilet paper and towels. This will save you a trip to Walmart late at night, and you’ll be able to enjoy the first night with your family.
- Body Wash, shampoo and conditioner
- Toilet paper
- Toothpaste & toothbrushes
- First aid kit
A Home Essentials Bag
A home essentials bag is a box or bag that has all the needed items inside to spend a week in your new home. This can include personal items or items for the entire family. This will also help to stop all of the trips to Walgreens.
- Underwear and clothing
- Phone chargers and laptop chargers
- Paper plates, silverware, and napkins
- Flashlight and batteries
- Can opener (& maybe a wine opener, if you're planning to toast your new home!)
- A basic toolkit
Don’t forget about the kids and animals! You’ll want to make sure you have all the essentials for them as well. For kids you’ll want: diapers, blankets, toys, and snacks.
For the furry members of your family, you’ll need a food and water dish, a few treats, a leash, and some of their favorite toys and blankets. You want to make sure the kids and animals are taken care of first because they’ll need less items!
After all the essential bags and boxes are unpacked, it is time to just relax. Don’t let the stress of the pile of boxes in the living room take away from the exciting moment.
How To Enjoy The First Night
- Open up some wine or sparkling cider because you just stepped foot inside your new home!
- Don’t worry about cooking. Just order some pizza or takeout and enjoy it on the floor.
- Find a board game and play it with the family.
- Depending on the time, go for a walk around the area.
The next morning, make sure to not overwhelm yourself with the unpacking process. Find all the boxes for each designated room and place them inside that room. This way, you’ll know what goes in each area. Ride around the area and see what it offers!
