The first night in your new home!
Congratulations from Homestead Homes! You’ve officially finished building a home yourself and it’s your first night in your new home. This is a time to celebrate with some sparkling cider or champagne. The first night in your new home is followed by a long day of packing and moving, with the possibility for more to happen tomorrow!
These are the essentials to spending the first night in your new home.
Before you even get to the first night, it’s important to make a new house checklist. It might seem like the last needed objective when building a home, but this is a vital one. This checklist can get you situated for the first night in the your place.
A checklist of all daily used items is essential to make it through the first couple of days. Having all your day to day items put into essential boxes will create less stress while completely moving in.
An essential box has everything you’ll need for the first couple of days. This box has clothing, pots and pans, medication, paperwork, snacks, board games, and basic toiletries. This can be one box of very minimal items or several boxes that will help with the moving process. For a family, it might be best to have a box for each person. This way nothing is forgotten or left inside the U-haul.
The next step is cleaning supplies. It might not seem like an important task, but you will want to make sure all the dust and debris from the construction process is cleaned away. This means wipe down the countertops, bring gloves and trash bags and a couple different cleaning solutions.
Plan out the boxes
To help your future self, put boxes in designated rooms and plan out which boxes will be unpacked the first night. It’s important to start small on the first night. A long day of moving is exhausting and it’s important to unpack what is necessary. Who knows, the only items you and your family unpack are the essential and first night boxes, which is okay! If that’s the game plan, roll with it.
You’ve done it! You’ve built your own home and now it’s time to rejoice. This can be another essential box in the planning and moving process. With plenty to worry about, just enjoy your first night. Pack a board game, pop the bubbly, order take-out, go to a restaurant or simply relax on the couch with a book. Whatever you find is the best way to celebrate a new milestone in life, just savor the moment.
