“We didn’t think it was possible to build a new home until some friends told us about Homestead. I thought that if Homestead really works the way they say, this would be perfect for us,” says Lesa. Greg adds, “We had a great experience right from the start. Our sales consultant was very knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable. He showed us all kinds of plans and options and told us that we could edit and modify Homestead’s plans. That’s exactly what we did.”
“Our total out of pocket investment was $900. When we moved into our home, we had a little over $49,000 in equity. Unbelievable, huh. If we finish the basement, we know our equity will increase greatly,” Greg says.
“We did it all ourselves - electrical, plumbing, concrete and flatwork,” says Greg. “When he says we, he means he and I,” Lesa interjects. “That’s right. Lesa cut siding and helped with the insulation and wiring. She laid out all the sections of the fireplace while I put them together,” says Greg. Lesa adds, “Any ladies out there who think they might want to help their husbands but think that it’s not possible, let me tell you it is possible. We had a lot of fun.”
“People may wonder how the panels will fit. Our walls were plumb and fit together perfectly. When we put up the last wall section, there was hardly room for caulk. I was amazed at that! It says a lot about the engineering and the people who built the wall panels,” says Greg. “We keep our home at 70 degrees and assist with wood heat from the basement. Our entire heating bill the first year was only $500 for the whole winter. That testifies to the quality of the windows and insulation. Structurally, Homestead didn’t cut any corners at all. I know what code is and the structure they provided would pass any code in the United States.”
Lesa concludes by saying, “It was a very positive experience – you guys did a good job!” |
